Sunday, September 10 is Grandparents Day. Marian McQuade, a housewife in Fayette County, West Virginia, sparked the idea in the early 1970s. She had two goals:
- to champion the cause of lonely elderly in nursing homes
- to persuade grandchildren to tap the wisdom and heritage their grandparents could provide
President Jimmy Carter made Grandparents day official in 1978, specifying that it would be celebrated each year on the first Sunday following Labor Day.
Grandparents Day is an ideal moment to find ways to share your experience and wisdom with your grandchildren.
