Love to travel, but hate hotels? You’re not alone and there are some surprising solutions. AARP outlined some options which include:

Home exchange – you swap homes with someone in the place you want to travel to. Such swaps can be for a few days or as long as a year. It probably makes sense to work through a company like Intervac, although you can certainly find swaps on your own. Craigslist has a swap page in their real estate section. Check the city where you want to go.

There are people all over the world who offer a guest room in their own homes for sometimes surprisingly low rates. Again, it make sense to work through an agency like the Evergreen Club.

Of course, you may want to explore RVing. You can follow the tales of a couple on the road at Banking on the Road.
