The origins of Mother’s Day are a bit obscure. It may have originally emerged from the ancient Greek’s Mother worship. The United States copied the holiday from England when Julia Ward Howe, a social activist, wrote a Mother’s Day Proclamation to urge women to unite in peace following the Civil War.
These days the celebration is seen as a way to acknowledge and thank mothers everywhere, although there are some who want to return it to its original purpose.
According to the National Restaurant Association, Mother’s Day is the single most popular date to eat out.
