February is a great time to start thinking about your 2006 income tax. Sure, the filing date isn’t until April, April 17
th this year. But if you want to take advantage of tax preparers, the earlier the better. Come April they will be swamped and exhausted.
The IRS lists resources for getting free assistance with your tax preparation. Some have income restrictions, others don’t.
Best known is AARP’s Tax-Aid; plug in your zip code and the chances are you’ll find the help you need. And if you are good at understanding numbers and tax code, you can volunteer to help others there too.
